Rolled up the rim on a large double/double Pulled out of Brooks in my old grand am Rain on the road started giving me some trouble In Medicine Hat there was a traffic jam About an hour later when my wheels started turning The road rage settled and the weather was fair I saw something funny on the west bound shoulder It was a bright orange buddist with his thumb in the air Nobody's picking up hitch hiking buddha No one cares if he's dead or alive Nobody's picking up hitch hiking buddha Cause you can't be enlightened when you're trying to drive Four days later said bye to Regina Passed the yellow house on pinky road Tuned in to Abbey on the Moose Jaw station Stopped in Swift Current for some pie a la mode My eyes lit up at the Alberta border Three more hours if I never stop Looked up ahead through the crack in my window It was hitch hiking buddha standing in the same spot Nobody's picking up hitch hiking buddha No one cares if he's dead or alive Nobody's picking up hitch hiking buddha Cause you can't be enlightened when you're trying to drive He looked in to my eyes I felt kind a sorry for him But too our surprise It's really hard to stop at a hundred and ten I never picked up hitch hiking buddha Now my heart is bleeding inside But I don't pick up strangers stranger than a stranger Plus you can't be enlightened when you're trying to drive You can't be enlightened when you're trying to drive
